Nourish Yourself This Samhain Season

nourish yourself samhain

Its October and its the start of the spooky season with Halloween or should we say "Samhain" just around the corner, we were curious to dive into the origins of Samhain, and some rituals we can create together at home this hallow-season.

The origins of Samhain date back to the ancient Celts, who inhabited regions of Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France. Samhain holds significant importance due to its dual nature as a celebration of the harvest's end and a spiritual connection to the otherworld. For the ancient Celts, it marked a critical transition in the Wheel of the Year, signifying the shift from abundance to scarcity as winter approached. It was also a time when the veil between the living and the dead was believed to be at its thinnest, fostering rituals and customs to honor ancestors and seek their guidance.

This blend of agricultural and spiritual significance has continued to captivate people throughout history, making Samhain a unique and cherished holiday that bridges the gap between the earthly and the supernatural.

Here are some rituals to celebrate the coming of fall and the spooky season at home alone or with loved ones this Samhain.

Pumpkin Carving

The history of pumpkin carving can be traced back to ancient Celtic traditions in Ireland. Originally, people carved faces into turnips and potatoes, placing lit candles inside to ward off evil spirits during Samhain, a festival marking the end of the harvest season.

When Irish immigrants brought this custom to America in the 19th century, they discovered pumpkins, which were larger and easier to carve. Thus, the tradition of carving pumpkins, or "jack-o'-lanterns," was born. When carving your pumpkins this season, did you know you can use every last bit of the pumpkin to eat.

We would suggest using the squishy pulp and blending it up with spices to create a delicious pumpkin pie. And picking out the pumpkin seeds covering them in olive oil and sea salt and toasting them for eating later. Ever last bit of the pumpkin can be used for festive snacks.

Tarot Card Reading

The history of tarot card readings dates back to the 15th century in Europe, with the cards themselves possibly originating in Italy. Originally used for playing card games, tarot cards evolved into a tool for divination and insight. In the late 18th century, French mystics began to associate deeper meanings with the cards, connecting them to esoteric and spiritual practices. Today, tarot card readings are practiced by individuals seeking guidance, self-reflection, and a deeper understanding of their lives, making them a widely recognised and respected aspect of personal exploration.

Creating an at-home spa this fall offers a multitude of benefits. As the weather cools and days grow shorter, an at-home spa provides a sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation. It allows you to unwind and destress in the comfort of your own space, offering relief from the seasonal hustle and bustle.

Get cosy with some candles, we recommend a beautiful warm fragrance like The Home Moment Amber to let you settle into the season. Warm baths, and soothing music, you can alleviate tension, improve sleep, and boost your overall well-being. Plus, it's a perfect way to indulge in self-care, pamper your skin, and prepare for the colder months ahead.
